You have worked hard to achieve success and make a good life for your family. You want the best for your child, and coming to Rutgers Preparatory School is an important step in achieving that goal.

However, starting at a new school in a new country can be intimidating and challenging for both you and your child. We know that attending school is more than just academics. In order to achieve his dreams, he must be in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.

That is where American Education Programs (AEP) comes in.

By participating in a homestay program, your child will absorb American culture and become involved in a family’s life. His English can dramatically improve when he interacts with the members of his host family. His understanding of American life becomes second nature through activities with the family.

By working with the Admission team at Rutgers Prep,  AEP has been matching students with host families for seven years. Through interviews and discussions with you and your child, and by working with the RPS admissions and International Student office, we learn what is important to you and your child. We gain insight into your child’s academic, social, and extracurricular needs, and match him with carefully screened American families based on common features.

Each host family is carefully interviewed and vetted and undergoes a full background check. Every home is personally visited by one of the AEP partners to make sure that your child will not only be in a good home but the right home for him. In addition, all homestay families go through an intensive orientation to prepare them for the arrival of a student. We encourage hosts and students to begin to communicate as soon as the match is made and many students feel they are part of the family long before they actually arrive. It is not surprising that many students maintain contact with their hosts after they graduate from RPS.

Once your child has arrived and is settled in, we maintain regular communication between your child, the host family and the school to ensure that your child’s experience is happy and conducive to academic, social and personal growth. We stand ready to help in every way we can.
